Day-10 Sep-14-09

Today we spent a little time driving around the Lake George area. It was alright... Kind of reminded me of a smaller version of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge TN. There were a ton of hotels, restaurants, shops, outlet malls, miniature golf courses, go kart tracks, etc. Looked like a neat place for a family vacation. The lake is pretty large, and there were a number of boats out and about.

After driving around town for a while, we headed off to the back roads for some riding. We covered about 256 miles of back roads today, ending up in Utica NY.

There are a gazillion or more lakes in this park (well at least a few hundred). You can see from my GPS screen shot, that there are a ton, just in the little area we road around today.

Here are a couple we passed along the way. They are really scenic...

We also ended up crossing the Hudson river about 5 times today.

Like Vermont, the Adirondacks in NY have "Moose Crossing" signs in many places. Also like Vermont, there were no actual moose to be seen !!! Although, we did see a lot of these critters along the road today (wild turkeys).

Finding places to eat on these back roads can be pretty difficult. We ended up in a little town and ate lunch here...

We almost had lunch here, but thought the proximity to the local air field might be distracting... :)

Gas can be difficult to find out here too, as most of the smaller towns have NO gas stations. But, when you do find gas, you find just about anything you might need...

Good thing we had already found lunch, I was not in the mood for more worms.

I found my thrill, on po-ta-to hill ????

Here is a nice shot of the Utica NY skyline as we headed into town from the back roads.

Tomorrow, we head home. It will be a 360 mile shot westward, entirely on route 90. Woo-hoo, I am really looking forward to freeway and toll booths, NOT.
