Day-3 Jul-10-09

Well, after 2 nasty storm cells passed through, we finally got on the road about 2:30 PM Central Time !!! We had to cover about 455 miles today to hit Sioux Falls South Dakota. It is about 6 hours and 40 minutes of seat time, or about 8 hours 20 minutes with gas and food stops. We finally arrived at the Homewood Suites in Sioux Falls South Dakota at 10:50 PM Central Time. The 70 mph speed limits in Iowa, and the 75 MPH speed limits in South Dakota helped. It is a little unnerving cruising along at 80 in the dark on strange highways, but there was absolutely no other traffic on the road after dark.

It did rain on us for a while as we passed through Des Moines Iowa, but not enough to slow us down much. Unfortunately, the rain did NOT cool off the daytime temps, it just added to the already high humidity, making the rain gear awfully hot !!

As we left the hotel this morning, we crossed over the mighty (muddy) Mississippi river. Other than that, there were no real sights to see except more and more CORN !!!

As we approached Sioux Falls SD, the trip meter crossed the 1000 mile mark. It doesn't take much to ammuse you when the scenery is so boring :)

So, no photos from today, as it was just fast, wet, highway riding (getting pretty tired of seeing nothing but corn everywhere you look).

Tomorrow should be more interesting, as we get to see a few things.... The Corn Palace in Mitchell SD (I guess they really like their corn out here) ?? Wall Drug, and the Badlands area. We will end up going through Rapid City and up into Sturgis, where we will stay for 2 nights. No, the big Sturgis rally is not going on, it occurs during the first week of August, so we will not be part of the crowds.

Hope everyone is doing well at home, time for me to head off to bed. Goodnight.
