2009 Vermont Trip

Well, it's time for another trip on the bike.

This time we are planning on heading over to the Catskill mountains in New York. We'll spend a couple of days in that area, which will include a visit to Woodstock.

After the Catskills, we will head up into Vermont for a few days. We'll travel from southern Vermont up to the Burlington area. I have skied at a few of the ski areas in the Vermont mountains, including Killington, Stowe, and Smuggler's Notch. However, I have never been to this area in the summer. While in Vermont, we plan to stop at the Ben and Jerry's ice cream factory. They give plant tours, which include a sample in their "tasting" room at the end of the tour!!!

After Vermont, we plan to head back into upstate New York in the Adirondacks. Lake Champlain runs down the border of northern and central Vermont and New York, so we will need to get across. You can head north or south and go around the ends of the lake, but we plan to take a ferry ride across. The ferry appears to be pretty cheap and will dump us into Plattsburgh which is not very far from Lake Placid. It looks like the ferry runs frequently as well.

In the Adirondacks, we plan to spend a couple days in the Lake Placid area. It should be neat to see the Olympic Village. You can even take an elevator ride up to the top of the ski jumps.

You can also take a bobsled ride with a professional driver and brakeman. In the summer, it looks like they outfit the sleds with some type of wheels so that they can run them year round??

The freestyle skiers also practice year round at Lake Placid, by jumping on plastic covered ramps into a huge swimming pool, at the Freestyle Aerial Center.

Looks like there is a lot to see.

The remaining time in the Adirondacks will be spent riding the numerous mountain roads, and seeing the many lakes in the area. We'll spend a day or two in the Lake George area, then head back home.

This trip will cover 11 days. We will be heading out the morning of Saturday, September 5th.
